Biography
Allan Parker is a senior lecturer on the MA and BA Fine Art: Photography course at Camberwell College of Arts and at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Tech (Bangalore, India). He was senior lecturer on the MA and BA Photography courses at the University of Westminster until 2019.
He has a degree in Fine Art (1st) from The University of Reading and a PG Dip (Distinction) from Central Saint Martins. He has also been a visiting lecturer at The Academy of Arts at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia and is an advisor to the Union of Independent Film Makers Kinetic Collective, Belgrade.
He continues his practice at the intersection of art and design which includes work in a range of media including creating and designing exhibitions and installations at independent and public galleries as well as producing commissioned and non-commissioned works in video, photography and print. He also established a publishing imprint - Pure Land Press - to produce self-published and commercially published books; projects which often include creative and critical writing. He makes use of these skills to help students develop a conceptual and practical framework for their practice.
His artworks, designs and installations have been shown in Tokyo, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Athens, and Belgrade as well as in London in a range of spaces including the V&A and the Museum of Childhood.
From summer 2020 until the present, he has been working to establish The Footnote Centre for Image and Text in Belgrade - an artist residency programme which is open for residents and exhibitions and was one of the venues for the Youth Biennale of Serbia, which also includes invited foreign artists. His work was recently part of 'It Never Happened!" 100 years of Zenit (Avant Garde Publication) at the Cinema Balkan in Belgrade. He is currently working on an exhibition at the Academy of Arts Belgrade.
