  • Externally, use the abbreviation 'Camberwell' once you’ve established its meaning by using our full name.
    • Example: Camberwell College of Arts (Camberwell) offers courses in Art, Design and Conservation. Camberwell's facilities embrace both traditional craftsmanship and digital technology.

Brand narrative

Our brand narrative has been developed to outline what we stand for and should underpin everything we do:

Driving positive social impact through creativity

We exist to deliver social change through art and design. Social engagement is at the heart of our work. Our students will be supported, encouraged and challenged to rethink current practices and be critically engaged in their understanding of the art world. We focus on developing socially responsible creative solutions. We shake up the status quo, and wake up the external world to new creative approaches to social and cultural issues.

What we do

Camberwell College of Arts, UAL, is a renowned art and design college driving positive social impact through art and design. Our unique studio culture offers students the freedom and support to explore their individual creativity using facilities that embrace both traditional craftsmanship and digital technology.

We believe passionately in social citizenship, whilst maintaining the view that arts must remain committed to the rewards of free inquiry and experimentation. Our students benefit from staff who take immense pride and care in guiding students in a journey of discovery, helping them develop the critical thinking, making skills and social sensibilities that equip them to thrive both individually and in their communities.

Using our brand narrative

Sometimes you may need to shorten the narrative to tailor it to the needs of your audience or to adhere to specific word count.

Example — one sentence:

Driving positive social impact through creativity.

Example — one paragraph:

We exist to deliver social change through art and design. Social engagement is at the heart of our work. Our students will be supported, encouraged and challenged to rethink current practices and be critically engaged in their understanding of the art world. We focus on developing socially responsible creative solutions. We shake up the status quo, and wake up the external world to new creative approaches to social and cultural issues.

With the UAL brand narrative

There may be times when you have to reference Camberwell alongside the wider University:

  • Prioritise language which describes Camberwell, supported by extracts from the UAL brand narrative and messaging pillars to bring clarity to the connection to the University brand.
  • Avoid duplication of language between narratives as this can become confusing for audiences.

Messaging

One-line descriptor:

Imagery

Imagery is a key part of our brand. So it's important that the imagery we use showcases the best of what we do at Camberwell:

  • the work of our students from across the College's schools and courses
  • our diverse community of students, alumni and staff
  • our state-of-the-art facilities
  • our part in the community of Southwark.

We also need to make sure that all imagery includes the correct copyright information and is credited in line with our crediting guidelines.
