Health, safety and wellbeing

Your health and wellbeing are an important part of student life. Our student services are here to help you stay healthy, feel supported and make the most of your time at university.

Explore the advice and resources available to help you thrive while you study.

Your health

Looking after your physical health is an important part of making the most of your time at university.

Explore our health advice and get support.

Register with a doctor near you

We advise registering with a doctor (GP) near your new home as soon as possible. This is so that you can access medical care quickly and easily if needed.

UK students may already be registered near your family’s address, but it will be easier to go to appointments or get medicines from a local GP.

Free NHS treatment is accessible to:

  • all UK students
  • EU and International students on a full-time course lasting more than 6 months.

You may need to pay for prescriptions, dental treatment and eye care.

You can choose to register with any local GP.

Get wellbeing support

Life at university can be exciting but also daunting. We’re here to support you in all areas of your student life.

Out of hours and emergency support

Hopefully you’ll never need to use it, but it’s always good to know how to get help.

Health, safety and security

We want UAL to be a safe place for all students, staff and visitors. From first aid to studio and workshop safety or risk assessments for different activities, find out more about student health and safety.

What to do in an emergency

On-site security

We want to make sure you always feel safe on our sites. If you have an urgent security concern, report it to the site reception or to one of the security team.

Or you can report any damage, trespass or crime through our security incident reporting form.

Get emergency help

For emergencies, either call 999 and ask for an ambulance or go to the nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department in a hospital.

For non-emergencies, call 111. They will give you professional advice and make you an appointment with your doctor or nearest walk-in centre.

Evacuation assistance

In an emergency, or when the fire drill sounds, the lifts will be closed. If you need support to evacuate, tell your course leader. If needed, they will arrange a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) for you.

Your PEEP will outline what you need to do in an emergency and any assistance that will be provided to you.

Creating a safe and welcoming environment

We are proud of our diverse student communities, and we are committed to ensuring UAL is an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

There is no place for racism, bullying, harassment or sexual violence at UAL. Use our Tell Someone form to report incidents and get support.

Lots of people find that art school is a place where they finally fit in... it’s kind of a hub for people who might not have fit in, in other places.
