Each year BA Textile Design students and staff make their annual trip to Premiere Vision, Paris to engage in and sell their work at this key international trade fair for apparel fabrics.

The project is supported by our Business and Innovation team who explained their part in the process:

“From a Business & Innovation perspective we support students with the Intellectual Property (IP)/legal, financial and insurance aspects of selling their designs to commercial buyers at the trade show.

Exhibiting at Premier Vision was a great opportunity for the students to gain experience of how a large scale, international trade show runs and understanding first-hand the end to end process of designing the samples to engaging with a buyer and selling their designs.”

Caryn Simonson, Course Leader for BA Textile Design explains how the trip comes together, its importance and opportunity for all involved:

“Thank you to all the team for their teaching input and support. The Premiere Vision Paris stand for Chelsea looked professional and fresh with a diverse range of work and colour. Second year student work went down very well indeed at Premiere Vision this year – a successful project and trip!

Interesting new industry contacts were made, we reconnected with familiar contacts and viewed new innovations in fabrics, materials and processes. Many alumni visited the stand and it was great to hear about their successes and destinations.

The most important aspect of Premiere Vision for Chelsea students is seeing the new materials, contact with mills, suppliers and future innovation and developments. The opportunity to participate in meeting clients, making sales and understanding the professional international market is one of many important contexts to experience.”

Tayla Sander, BA Textile Design, second year student commented:

“We got the chance to see all parts of the industry which is really important and to present our work to professional standard. The proximity of Paris to London is a big advantage as well as the chance to sell our work to professional design organisations.”
