Anika Jop is a junior at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, US, studying advertising. She joined the spring semester Study Abroad in her second year on the Advertisement course at London College of Communication.

How was studying abroad in London? What is your favourite thing about the city?

Studying abroad in London was the best decision I could have ever made. It has been so much fun and a completely new experience. I think that my favourite thing about the city is how much stuff there is to do: museums, walking around, going to a park, places to eat, shopping… you can really do anything you want.

What is your favourite memory of studying abroad?

Everything about the experience was amazing. But I really liked being able to meet people from all over the world and create new friendships with them.

What did you enjoy about your classes?

The thing I enjoyed most about my classes was learning about advertising and how different it is here compared to the United States.

Can you tell us about a project you were particularly excited about?

In one of my classes, we had a big project that required us to create multiple advertisement campaigns that would be presented all together in one portfolio. It has been interesting working on all these small projects that would become one.

Why did you choose UAL Study Abroad?

I chose UAL to study abroad because I’ve always wanted to come to London and UAL is one of the top universities in the world with an Advertising program, so I could not miss this opportunity.

How do you think your study abroad experience will help you with your future endeavours?

This experience has given me a new perspective on things and since advertising is such an international subject, I feel like it is important to understand how it works in different countries. This is something that I’ve learned a lot about.

What is the most valuable thing you learnt from the experience?

The most valuable lesson I learnt from the experience is to say yes to every opportunity you get. There is no time like the present to try new things, and what better place to do it than when you are living and studying in a new country.

Is there anything you want to share with future study abroad students/ future applicants?

There’s a lot of cool workshops offered by UAL and you should definitely take advantage of them and take as many as you can/want. Also, you probably won’t want to leave once your program is done.

Would you recommend the experience at UAL?

I would definitely recommend the experience at UAL. London and UAL are awesome, you will have so many opportunities to learn and do new things. It’s definitely a great opportunity to grow as a professional and as a person.
