Access our collections and see what services we offer.

Visiting

The University Archives and Special Collections Centre is open Monday to Friday 1-4pm by advance appointment.

Before booking, please browse our online catalogue and provide us with reference numbers for the items you want to see. You can request a maximum of 10 items per visit.

If you cannot make your appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance.

Services we offer

Teaching sessions

We can arrange teaching sessions for UAL student groups and their tutors. Our experienced staff can introduce you to our archives and collections, sharing information and explaining how you can use them in your practice or research.

We can tailor our sessions if you’re interested in a particular collection, theme or subject.

Remote research services

We can carry out up to 60 minutes of remote research for researchers who cannot visit the archive.

We can also provide a limited number of copies of archive material. There are charges for copying in line with prices charged across Library Services.

If you want to have something copied, please email archive-enquiries@arts.ac.uk and we'll tell you if it's possible. We'll consider the condition and preservation needs of the item, copyright and Data Protection.

Copying items from the Stanley Kubrick Archive is restricted to academic researchers working on university or school projects only, due to the archive’s donation agreement.

Reproducing material

You will need to fill out a copyright declaration form giving details of all the items you ask us to copy for you, as well as the items you photograph yourself.

Copying service

Photographing items during your visit

Non-flash photographs of materials from our archives and collections are usually allowed for non-commercial research and private study. Photos of the Stanley Kubrick Archive are not allowed.

Please ask a member of staff before photographing archive materials. You'll need to fill out a copyright declaration form giving details of all the items you photograph.

Commercial reproduction

We can provide copies of archive materials for commercial reproduction such as in books, magazines etc.

You must clear copyright on any items before the archive can release images to you.

There's a fee to cover the administration of the copying and contribute to collection care. We'll tell you the charge when you make your selection.

Copying of archive material from the Stanley Kubrick Archive for commercial purposes needs approval by the donors of the Archive before we can release any images to you. This process can take some time. If you want to request images for reproduction we can advise you further on this when you visit.
