We need collaborators for a nature publication!
I’m starting a magazine that celebrates London’s nature and I’m looking for contributors and collaborators.
I’m a designer and a student of Applied Imagination at Central St. Martins. In an effort to raise awareness of the biodiversity crisis happening in the UK I’m starting a magazine with the working title ‘Outside Interest’. It’s going to take a psychogeographic look at London, showing it as a place for nature rather than just an urban sprawl. By looking at wildlife, natural places, ‘unofficial countryside’ and innovative food projects happening in the capital I want to show Londoners that ‘nature’ is all around them.
This is an open call out for graphic designers, editorial designers, photographers, illustrators and journalists who are interested in nature and the natural world especially in London.
I’m looking for collaborators who might be willing to help design the magazine layout, take photographs for features, provide illustrations for stories or interview people around London who are running interesting projects. The magazine needs all the help it can get so if you think you can help out that would be fantastic!
But I’m also looking for contributors. If you are running a project that looks at nature in London then let me know! Perhaps you’re looking at invasive species, London’s weeds, its birds, taking photographs of London’s canal systems, keeping bees in your flat or carrying out your own psychogeographic journeys I want to include your project in the first edition.
Its not only another platform to share your work and your stories but also the chance to be part of a new organisation from the ground floor. You’ll also be part of a network of likeminded practitioners, designers and conservationists all getting together for a cause and the first of its kind.
The project already has a lot of interest from people working in all sorts of fields but for the first issue I am trying to compile stories, illustrations and more people who are willing to get involved.
If it sounds like something you might be interested in, or you know someone who might be, then please get in touch at hello@mikehankin.com. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or would like to know more about the project.
