On 8 November, UAL Creative Shift and the Insights team hosted ‘Inside Track’ - a free event for students who came to the University through the Insights programme to expand their social and professional network.

UAL Insights is an outreach programme offering young people access to our Colleges for creative activities and pre-university advice. UAL believes that widening participation to art and design higher education is essential for the future of both our creative industries and society as a whole.

The event was an opportunity for students to be inspired, reflect and network with other creatives. As part of the event, 2 Creative Shift industry partners – Debra Chosen and Gemma Levitas - spoke on the topic of ‘overcoming overwhelm’, giving inspiring insights and top tips to a new generation of creatives. Former students Davinia Clarke and Malaya Rhiann Edwards-Roberts spoke about their experiences of coming to UAL through the Insights programme and working with Creative Shift and how it helped them to create opportunities and forge their own pathways.

“Starting at university can be an overwhelming experience and it can take a while to find your feet and your people who will support you through that journey,” says Tessa Read, UAL Creative Shift lead – Academic Enhancement. “That’s why it’s so important that we work with the Insights team to let students know we’re here with opportunities to connect students with industry and a community of like-minded people.”
