There’s a certain energy around Origins Creatives – the kind that stays with you long after the exhibition ends. After curating last year’s exhibition at the iconic Mall Galleries, founder of Creative Debuts, Calum Hall, is officially back for round two - and this time, he returns with an even sharper focus on the next generation of creative talent.
To top it all off, submissions for Origins Creatives 2026 are now officially open!
UAL Awarding Body’s annual celebration of student achievement returns from 15-18 July 2026, once again taking over the prestigious Mall Galleries in Central London.
From fashion and performance to art, media and music, Origins Creatives brings together bold new work from students across UAL Awarding Body qualifications.
More than an exhibition, it’s a snapshot of emerging creative voices, fresh perspectives and the future of the creative industries.
For many students, Origins Creatives is the first time their work is exhibited in a professional gallery setting, seen by artists, educators, industry professionals and the public.
And if last year was anything to go by, 2026 is shaping up to be something special.
According to Calum, last year’s exhibition left a lasting impression.
“Wow, so many unforgettable moments and incredible artists,” he reflects. “I would say the overarching memory is of the energy and vibe of the launch - so many talented creatives in one space, proud parents, amazed art lovers and a feeling of excitement for the future of art.”
When asked if there was one work that stayed with him after the exhibition closed its doors, Calum points to Gun Metal by artist Teig Hyde-Corrin - an artist he’s now collaborating with again through an upcoming Creative Debuts exhibition, TOUCH GRASS.
For Calum, what makes Origins Creatives so exciting is the honesty and immediacy of student work.
“I think there is no limit to how art is used as a vehicle for important conversations that need to be had,” he says. “Be that topic’s close to home, on the global stage or discussing emotions we all face.”
That rawness is exactly what keeps student exhibitions distinct from more established shows.
“Rawness, authenticity, beautiful imperfections, unapologetic energy,” Calum says. “Don’t get me wrong, these components are also found in established exhibitions, but especially amplified in student shows.”
As someone who has spent years championing emerging creatives through Creative Debuts, Calum is also candid about the realities young artists are navigating today.
“Young creatives are navigating real financial pressures, and that inevitably impacts creativity and opportunity.”
Despite those challenges, his message to students considering submitting their work this year is simple: go for it.
“I know it can feel a bit daunting releasing your creativity into the wild, but Origins Creatives is the perfect platform for this and an incredible opportunity to have your work in a brilliant gallery, in the centre of London. A genuinely huge career moment not just for all the artists, but also for me as an experienced curator.”
And after curating Origins Creatives for the first time, Calum has already landed on three words that define the 2026 exhibition - and hint at what’s to come:
“Unapologetic, undivided and unbound.”
Safe to say, we’re very ready.
Whether it’s your first performance, collection, film, design or creative experiment, Origins Creatives 2026 is an opportunity to have your work seen, celebrated and shared.
Submissions for Origins Creatives 2026 are now open and close on Friday 19 June 2026.
