The Derwent Art Prize has selected artworks by 5 University of the Arts London (UAL) graduates for the 2022 exhibition.

The 8 pieces – selected out of 6,100 entries worldwide – are by alumni of Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon colleges and Central Saint Martins.

An international competition for art made in pencil, the Derwent Art Prize comprises prizes of over £12,500. The winners will be announced in a Private View on Wednesday 23 February. All 72 shortlisted works will be on display at gallery@oxo from Thursday 24 February until 6 March 2022.

Created in 2012 by Derwent, the Derwent Art Prize rewards excellence in contemporary graphic art by showcasing the very best artworks created in pencil.

Now in its sixth edition, the Derwent Art Prize invites artists from around the world to submit works created in 2D or 3D in any pencil including graphite, coloured pencil, water soluble, pastel and charcoal.

Selectors Katy Hessel (host of The Great Women Artists podcast), Paul Hobson (Director of Modern Art Oxford) and Charmaine Watkiss (contemporary artist, represented by Tiwani Contemporary, and 2019 MA Drawing alumna from Wimbledon) shortlisted 72 works by 55 artists for the exhibition.
