Professor David Mba is Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise.
Prior to joining UAL he was Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise at De Montfort University where he was responsible for research, the Doctoral college, knowledge exchange and regional engagement. He led the creation and development of a strategic alliance with the city council to reinforce the university’s commitment to the public good. He also oversaw the establishment of De Montfort as a major apprenticeship provider in the Midlands.
Prior to this role, David served as Pro Vice-Chancellor/Dean for the faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, where he created the Institute of Artificial Intelligence.
David has initiated and delivered the development of numerous academic programmes including Continuing Professional Development courses. He has led and been involved with multi-million-pound industry funded research projects and has published in excess of 330 journal and conference papers. In addition, David has been involved with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and oversaw the development and publication of the first international standard in his subject.
David has previously held other leadership roles, including Dean of Engineering, London Southbank University, where he established external research innovation centres, and Associate Dean, Faculty of Aerospace and Engineering, Cranfield University. He has proven success in executive leadership, culture change and partnerships, and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
