Topics covered

Using an unusual but sophisticated approach to embroidery, the course will cover:

  • How to source and create collage fashion illustrations which you will then further develop into embroidery
  • Transfer images onto fabric using Heat Transfer print techniques
  • Basic embroidery and machine stitching with thread, plastic and wool onto fabric
  • Using unusual materials for collage
  • Developing your study on how to produce a range of creative pieces for your portfolio
  • All students will be advised and guided as to how to realise their individual projects

Who should take this course?

The work that you produce on this course could be an excellent addition to your portfolio whether you want to apply for a fashion design course or a job in the industry or interior design. Anybody who wants to develop their fashion design skills and embroidery skills would also benefit.

Course Outcomes

You should end the course with re-charged creativity, lots of ideas in innovative contemporary embroidery and textile collage.

This course is scheduled to run on campus in a face-to-face delivery format. Topics Covered

Through practical workshops, the course will cover:

  • How to find and collage illustrations and how to develop them in embroidery
  • Transfer images on fabric and montage them on rectangular tambour. Basic and advanced embroidery techniques with thread, plastic, wool, all unusual materials, collage with fabric
  • Developing your study on portrait. Proportions, human face elements, shadows and light. Realization of two big embroidery pieces: portrait and vegetables/fruits. Every student can realise individual projects

Materials

Please bring the below to the first class:

  • Textile fabric markers or fabric pens (these do not need to be 'professional', the kid's version will work!)
  • Embroidery kit (scissors, needle, thread)
  • Any found or recycled materials such as plastic, different types of fabrics, or beads.
