Starting Fashion Illustration Online Short Course

Course description

The Starting Fashion Illustration Online Short Course is a self-paced course which offers students the opportunity to study in a way that works for them.

Our self-paced short courses are all about flexibility. Students can learn from any location at a time that suits them. When you sign up for an on-demand course, you will join other learners in an exciting global community.

Through a combination of online tutorials and practical exercises, students on the Starting Fashion Illustration Online Short Course develop their own style of fashion drawing through experimentation and by inspiration from different sources. The course looks at esteemed fashion illustrators such as David Downton, Stina Persson, Beth Fraser and Julie Verhoeven.

Students explore a wide range of media from ink and coloured pencil to monoprinting and are encouraged to break down barriers around perfection to embrace the unknown and develop their artistic form. By experimenting with a variety of media, they should start to see how they can develop movement and a sense of flair within their illustrations. Students would benefit by experimenting with the techniques demonstrated in their own time for a few hours per week.

The course examines the creative process of fashion illustration from the inspiration and experimentation phase, through to the design and range building stage. The course covers both men's and women's fashion catwalks and offers students an insight into the exciting ways in which the catwalks portray different styles of fashion.

By the end of the course, students should have some exciting fashion drawings based on their own unique style. They should also have some catwalk ranges illustrated which may form the basis of a new drawing collection to inspire them for future fashion projects and help them think in a different way about communicating the art of fashion illustration.
