Course description

Course overview

Taught through a combination of demonstrations and practical exercises, this course introduces students to Unreal Engine and its potential as a creative tool for presenting fashion work in immersive digital environments.

The course aims to give students with a background in fashion, including fashion design, print and textile design, and fashion marketing, the chance to explore how their existing creative skills can be translated into a real-time 3D workflow. During the course, students gain an insight into how game engine technologies can be used to build interactive spaces that reflect their own aesthetic and creative vision.

By the end of the course, students will develop an explorable digital gallery for their work, featuring a customised MetaHuman playable character and rendered cinematic sequences. Along the way, students will be introduced to key Unreal Engine tools including MetaHumans, Sequencer, and Blueprints. These will be shared with the group during the last session.

To get the most out of the course, students will be expected to complete independent work outside of class for up to 3 hours.

Who this course is for

This beginner-friendly course is designed for anyone interested in exploring how Unreal Engine can be used within their creative practice, with a particular focus on those from a fashion background.

Students will get the most out of the course if they bring examples of their own work to incorporate into the project, such as images, videos, garments, sculptures, or other visual material.
