Course overview
This introductory course is tailored for young creatives to explore the world of fashion design. Whether you're a complete beginner or already studying art, design or fashion at school, you'll gain insights into how fashion is taught at Central Saint Martins.
Through daily online presentations, live demonstrations, interactive tasks, and individually focused group tutorials, you will develop technical skills, build a portfolio-ready body of work, and prepare for further study.
This course covers fundamental techniques for fashion design and industry methodologies, helping you boost confidence while experimenting with ideas and honing your creativity in an online environment.

- A3 sketch pad / Drawing pad
- A4 or A3 hard backed sketchbook
- Drawing kit (pencils, and colour pencils)
- Colour (felt tip or marker pens, conte or charcoal, pens, acrylic or gouache paints, etc.)
- Eraser and pencil sharpener
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Selection of magazines for cutting up and collage (fashion, interiors, home decoration)

Tutor
Archie Dickens
Archie Dickens is a British designer and textile artist. Archie began his art school studies at Central Saint Martins on the foundation course, afterwards receiving a Bachelor's degree in Textiles at Chelsea College Of Art, and a Masters in Fashion from the Royal College Of Art in London. Over the last four years, since graduating from his masters, he has produced collections for Lisbon Fashion week under his brand AD16 and begun to create work for interiors..
His new work includes a costume design project for a performance-based art piece - showing in Berlin in the autumn as well as “Transverse 1”, which is a culmination of past experience in fashion and textile making that seeks to position his work between product and concept. Archie creates in a multi-disciplinary way and so he brings this to his teaching; introducing young artists and designers to a multi-faceted creative experience. He has taught with short courses for the last four years, working with experimental processes to extract his students' potential.
