Course description
Course overview
During these 4 weeks, you will explore the foundations of fashion design through research, collage, drawing, 3 dimension development and textile manipulation. It focuses on stimulating a flow of design ideas and illustration techniques to prepare for a fashion-led foundation course or similar. You will be guided through the process of designing and developing a collection and will leave with a strong foundation and the confidence to continue further in fashion.
Technical skills such as pattern cutting, draping and sewing are not part of this course. This course will instead explore creative design development methods such as shape and silhouette development through Paper draping and Textile Manipulation.
Throughout the weeks you will investigate different aspects of fashion design. The format of the course is designed to encourage creative thought and build your confidence in expressing your ideas. By the end of this short course, you will have a strong portfolio of fashion design work.
Who this course is for
No previous experience is necessary, and all levels are welcome to take part in this course. This course is ideal for anyone who has a strong interest in fashion design or who is pursuing a career change in the fashion industry.
Please note: this course is for those aged 18 and over only.

Topics covered
- WEEK 1- In the first week you will learn about concept development, this will include enrichment trips, secondary and primary research workshops including collaging and creative drawings and a life drawing workshop
- WEEK 2- In the second week you will learn about Design Development and how to interpret your research into ideas for Print, Textile, Silhouette and Shapes through a series of workshops including print development, silhouette development through creative draping, textile manipulation, developing a muse
- WEEK 3- In the third week you will explore how to refine your design development into concrete design for a collection lineup. You will learn how to develop garment references, explore vintage fashion through archives, and to draw and collage for a fashion design collection of your own through a series of fashion illustration and collage workshops
- WEEK 4- In the final week you will work on creating a piece for your collection using upcycled garment and textile techniques and will organise a photoshoot for your pieces and learn how to draw a final illustration of your garment

Materials
- One A3 layout pads
- One A3 cartridge pad
- Selection of pencils (2H, HB, 2B, 4B)
- Black fine liner
- Paint brushes
- Selection of gouache or acrylic paints in tubes
- Paper glue (eg Pritt Stick)
- Scissors
- Set of wax crayons
- Fabric such as Calico ( tutor will advised)
- Hand-Sewing Kit

Emma Gluziki is a further and higher education lecturer passionate about supporting students developing their interests into 3D outcomes through exploring modern themes and personal beliefs. Enhancing student’s learning process by utilising teaching experience and extended cultural knowledge to support creative development. Specialisation in portfolio development. creative draping and sustainability through traditional printing technique such as natural dye, pigment extraction and wax printing. She graduated in 2019 from Central Saint Martins and have been doing artist residency, working as a pattern cutting freelancer and business advisor. She is currently Program Manager for an Educational Charity along with developing her own Textile practice.Book a course
