Journalists may have to commission fashion shoots and promote themselves and their work on social media, so being able to chose eye catching images, take photographs and style shoots is increasingly important. Although this course focuses on writing, we also cover styling, how to chose photographs, and look at the importance of fashion film and video.

Entry requirements

A good grasp of the English language and an eye for fashion.

Level Beginners, no prior knowledge of the subject is needed, although fashion experience is of course always welcome.

Journalists increasingly have to commission fashion shoots, if not style themselves, so an introduction on how to choose pictures and basic fashion styling are also included.

Materials

Online short course materials

To take part in the Online sessions you will need:

  • An up-to-date web browser (we recommend Chrome)
  • Microphone and headphones (a headset with a microphone function is recommended. The built-in microphone in your device would also be fine)
  • Webcam
  • Strong Internet connection - we recommend a minimum of 2 Mbps download, and 1 Mbps upload, faster if possible. You can test your network speed here - https://www.speedtest.net

Please bring with you to the first session:

  • A notebook and pens/pencil for taking notes
  • A laptop or equivalent (if you already own one, no need to buy one for the course)
  • 3 fashion magazines of your choice

You will also need for the last session:

  • 1 piece of A2 paper
  • Prit stick glue
  • Scissors
  • 4 old fashion or lifestyle magazines for collage
