Do you want to know how to report from the catwalk shows, co-ordinate a fashion shoot and write fashion news? Do you dream of working for a fashion magazine? If you are interested in taking the first steps towards a career in fashion journalism, this beginners course is the one for you.

Topics covered include:

  • how to write news and features
  • face-to-face interviews
  • building contacts
  • getting a job in fashion
  • the structure of a fashion team in a magazine

Journalists increasingly have to commission fashion shoots, if not style themselves, so an introduction on how to choose pictures and basic fashion styling are also included.

Who should take this course?

The course is aimed at those looking for an insider's overview into the fashion journalism profession.

Entry requirements

Basic writing ability, a good grasp of the English language and an eye for fashion.

Level: Beginners

After doing this course, you should look into our Fashion Journalism - Intermediate short course, which will provide you with plenty more opportunities for putting what you've learned into practice.

Tutor Description

Harriet Worsley gained her degree at Central Saint Martins in Fashion Communication and Promotion and has worked as a fashion journalist for the trade and consumer press. She taught Fashion Communication on the Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins and has written four books on the history of fashion, she is also an accomplished garden designer.


Please bring with you to the first session:

  • Pens, pencils and writing paper
  • 3 fashion magazines of your choice
  • You will also need for the last two sessions:
  • A2 paper
  • Prit stick glue
  • Scissors
  • 4 old magazines for collage.
