Womp 3D for Illustration and Graphic Design Online Short Course
Course description
Course overview
Womp 3D for Illustration and Graphic Design is a beginner friendly online course introducing students to 3D creation through Womp, a browser-based 3D design tool.
Across five sessions, you'll learn how to navigate Womp, build simple 3D objects from core shapes, combine and refine forms, apply colour and standard materials, set up lighting and camera views and export finished work for portfolio, social media, presentation or further development.
The course connects 3D skills to familiar illustration and graphic design workflows, showing how Womp can be used to create playful visual assets, poster compositions, 3D stickers, stylised characters, product style mockups, icon objects, brand graphics and social media visuals.
You’ll also learn about Womp’s free AI tools, using them to progress simple ideation and through variation exercises so you can understand how AI can support a creative workflow without replacing their own design decisions.
Rather than developing one final project across the whole course, you'll work on completing a small take away project each session. This suits Womp’s fast, browser-based workflow and gives you a varied set of beginner friendly 3D outcomes by the end of the course.
Sessions combine short demonstrations, guided practice, individual development time, feedback and troubleshooting. The course will also include Womp community resources, examples of how to continue learning independently and a realistic comparison between Womp and more advanced 3D tools such as Blender or Cinema 4D. Compared with more technical 3D courses, the emphasis is on creative confidence, fast prototyping and producing finished looking visuals from simple forms.
Pro features may be discussed or briefly demonstrated for awareness, but they are not required to complete the course. Students should expect to spend 1-2 hours outside class refining their models, testing materials and preparing their final outputs between sessions.
Who this course is for
The course is designed especially for illustrators, graphic designers, visual communicators, content creators and beginners who want to explore 3D as an additional creative tool without needing prior 3D experience or paid software.
Basic computer literacy, confidence using a web browser and an interest in visual design is required.
Familiarity with creative software such as Adobe tools, Figma, Canva, Cinema 4D, Blender or Spline and a basic understanding of colour, composition or layout will be helpful.
No prior 3D experience is required.
Key information
- Womp interface, browser-based 3D workflow, free-plan tools, navigation and scene setup
- Modelling foundations: core shapes, object combinations, soft/organic forms, silhouette, proportion and visual refinement
- Translating illustration and graphic design ideas into 3D assets, for example icons, characters, stickers, product-style visuals and poster compositions
- Colour, standard materials, surface treatments, visual style development and free AI-assisted ideation
- Camera, composition, lighting, backgrounds and Full HD render/export preparation
- Community resources, realistic comparison with other 3D software, and next steps into Blender, Cinema 4D or 3D printing workflows
- Small take-away project for each session; examples include a 3D hero object, product scene, character/mascot, material/style study, abstract poster render
Learning outcomes
- Identify key 3D concepts and functionality in Womp including objects, scale, depth, camera, lighting, materials and export
- Be familiar with the methods in building simple 3D models from basic forms, translating 2D ideas, sketches, icons or visual concepts into playful/stylised 3D outcomes
- Develop stronger visual results through colour, materials, surface treatments, lighting, camera angles and backgrounds
- Identify how to use Womp’s free AI credits for simple ideation, variation or AI-assisted exploration where available, and understand the difference between Womp’s free and Pro features
