
Sound Arts is an interdisciplinary field of study with a strong orientation around practice. It aims to equip you with the creative and technical skills needed to produce a diverse range of sonic materials for the worlds of art, screen, design and media.
BA (Hons) Sound Arts is the UK’s leading course of its kind, located at the University ranked 2nd in the world for Art and Design in the QS University World Rankings by Subject 2024. It focuses on developing your experimental practice, creative evolution, technical expertise, critical thinking and professional development in a vibrant arts environment. All aspects of learning encompass a consideration of cultural diversity and through the lens of gender, race and class, alongside climate, ecological, and social justice contexts.
On this course, you’ll work both independently and collaboratively, with a cohort of students from a variety of backgrounds. It’s for anyone who is curious, open-minded and keen to develop and expand their potential as a sound-based artist or practitioner as a musician, DJ, sound artist, performer, producer, sound designer, or in any other related field.
The course enables you to take on the challenges and opportunities of contemporary sound arts practice across a range of areas: fine art, installation and gallery; sound design for film, animation, computer games, and virtual reality; creative coding; interactive media; or electronic and experimental music.
BA (Hons) Sound Arts sits within the Sound and Music programme at London College of Communication. You will study alongside students from: BA (Hons) Music Production, MA Sound Arts, MA Music Production and MA Music Management, with frequent collaboration opportunities between courses.

BA (Hons) Sound Arts: Design will develop your sound design and production skills and prepare you for a career as a sound designer in one of the many creative industries. Explore a wide range of technologies and techniques for producing sound, and work across a range of media – including film, TV, games, animation, theatre and broadcast media with a fine arts perspective.

BA (Hons) Sound Arts: Experimental Music will develop your passion for sonic experimentation as you explore methods and techniques in composition, performance, improvisation and installation. You’ll immerse yourself in contemporary music-making technologies, learn about experimental music scenes and practices, and work collaboratively across a diverse range of media and contexts.
