Course overview

This introductory jewellery making short course guides students through simple and practical techniques for making earrings in silver. The emphasis is on developing confidence and exploring foundational techniques for making silver jewellery by hand.

During the course, students learn how to use a piercing saw to cut silver sheets, use files to refine shapes and use a soldering torch to join silver pieces together. Students use embossing and doming to add surface detail and shaping to their pieces and discover how to achieve a good finish.

By the end of the 5 weeks students will know to make their own earrings customised with design details and understand how to use the workshop equipment safely.

After completing this short course, students may progress on to other jewellery making short courses to continue advancing their skills and develop a creative portfolio.

Who this course is for

This 5-week evening course is aimed at anyone interested in making their own silver jewellery. No previous experience is required, and support will be given in the use of workshop equipment.
