We had a chat with Easter School short course student, Laís Odeli Mendonça. She's an artist and fashion designer from Brazil.

What course did you study on and why did you choose it?

I studied on the one week, Ceramic for Beginners Short Course. I chose this course because I wanted to learn more about how to work with clay and ceramics.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I liked that we were free to create whatever we wanted. Besides learning the required techniques, this course has awakened my creativity and the course taught us to trust and value our own work. We are all unique and each person has their own talent.

How has this course benefited your career and personal development?

I always wanted to know how to work with ceramics and this course was essential for me to realise this desire. I want to have a creative studio and I realised that I don't need to limit my creations, I can work with ceramics, I can paint on canvas, I can paint bags, chairs, anything. I can create and paint whatever I want.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking a short course at Central Saint Martins?

I would say that is the best choice of your life, if you are looking for something that will inspire you to feel your heart and discover your own artistic identity.

What do you believe is integral to the work of an artist, in any discipline?

I believe an artist should always seek knowledge, new techniques and inspiration in order to better express their vision.

What 3 words best describe your short course experience at CSM?

Inspiration, Knowledge and Recognition
