UAL’s Black Creatives Hub has launched its first ever colouring book, featuring vibrant illustrations created by Black students and recent graduates from across the University.
The book follows an open call earlier this year, inviting Black students and recent graduates to submit illustrations inspired by Black history, culture and identity. We received 68 submissions, with a selection of designs chosen to feature in the finished book.
The project was developed in partnership with not just a shop, UAL’s curated retail space, giving the selected artists the chance to see their work published and shared with a wider audience. The book was designed by UAL Creative, with the production funded by UAL's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team.

The selected artists were each paid £100 per selected design and received copies of the finished book.
The designs featured in the book reflect the different styles and perspectives of the artists who took part, with each artist bringing their own approach to the theme.
The book puts its own spin on the traditional colouring book format, with individual sheets designed to be coloured and shared with others, then displayed as finished pieces.
