Take the Race Equality Charter. 4-31 May

We want to hear your views on studying at UAL and what we can do to eradicate racial discrimination and advance race equality.

UAL is striving to become an anti-racist institution. Recent world events including the Black Lives Matter campaign, the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent trial verdict have shone a light on racial inequity. We have accepted that we need to do much more at UAL in the fight for racial equality and we have already published an Anti-racism action plan (PDF 1.8MB).

Feeding into this work is an application for Advance HE’s Race Equality Charter and, as the next stage in that process, we have launched a survey to gather insight from staff and students. This is your opportunity to help identify what further action should be taken to drive change across UAL.

We are committed to addressing racial inequalities and creating an inclusive culture and environment where individuals are able to thrive, irrespective of their race or ethnicity.

If you're a student or employee of UAL, visit the survey page and follow the instructions to log in and take the survey.

Why are we running this survey?

The Race Equality Charter, alongside our new anti-racism action plan, aims to inspire a strategic approach to making cultural and systemic changes which will make a real difference not only to minority ethnic staff and students, but to the entire UAL community. It provides a framework through which organisations work to identify and self-reflect on institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of black, Asian and minority ethnic staff and students.

Why should you take part?

This survey is part of the overall work through which we look to understand our culture and advance race equality at UAL. By taking part, you are adding to our institutional knowledge and helping identify the areas for improvement, and ways to make change.

The results of this survey will be included in our application, and if successful, the application will then be published on our website. We hope you will see your views and ideas reflected within that application and we will also show you how we are acting upon the survey results.

This survey is just one of the ways you can get involved. We will be communicating regularly to keep you up to date with the race equality work we are undertaking and seeking your views on future actions. If you would be happy to be contacted to be involved further in this work, please leave your contact details at the end of the survey.

Data security and anonymity

This survey is anonymous. To ensure it remains so, please don’t include any information in free-text fields which could lead to you or any other individuals being identified. Throughout the survey, please only answer the questions you are comfortable with.

A personalised link to the survey has been sent to your email. You can also visit the survey page and follow the instructions to log in and take the survey.
