Are you an undergraduate student at LCC? Do you want to travel and learn something new this summer?

We are offering 18 students a £750 bursary towards the cost of a summer school run by one of UAL’s partner universities around the world, where you will have the opportunity to study subjects including fashion, fine art, graphic design or VR.

About

If you are an undergraduate student at LCC in your first or second year, you can apply for one of 18 bursaries – each worth £750 – that the College has made available to support the costs of going to a summer school managed and administered by one of UAL’s partner universities.

These universities all offer programmes of high academic quality, located in some of the world’s most exciting student locations.

The summer schools are offered as an additional and complementary experience – the subject you study does not need to match your degree programme. Although you may be awarded credit by the partner institution, the credit will not transfer back to your degree at LCC.

The bursaries are intended as a contribution towards the costs of participating and are not intended to cover all of the expenses you may incur.

The costs, duration, and overall nature of the summer schools will vary between institutions. All of the institutions offered have previously been visited by a UAL or LCC member of staff.

5 reasons to apply for a Summer School Bursary

  1. You will experience studying abroad for a short period of time, on a programme directly relevant to your LCC course, or on a programme that is slightly (or perhaps very...) different to what you study at LCC.
  2. You will meet students and tutors from all over the world, building new networks in the process.
  3. You will gain first-hand experience of a new culture.
  4. You will gain international experience relevant for future job opportunities or further studies.
  5. You will experience an exciting mix of study, social and cultural events and often have the opportunity to learn another language.

Before you apply

  • Bursaries are only offered to LCC students progressing from Year 1 into Year 2, or Year 2 into Year 3
  • Make sure the summer school programme does not clash with any other commitments you have for the summer, including your course at LCC. It is your responsibility to check the schedules.
  • Ensure you meet the entry requirements for that institution. Some programmes need you to have specific knowledge in that area. Some programmes are only aimed at advanced undergraduate students in Year 2. Do not apply for a programme for which you are not eligible.
  • Do check beforehand that the programme you are interested in still has places by visiting the other university's website. Some programmes fill up very quickly.
  • Applications will not be considered from students applying for bursaries to attend a summer programme in their home country.
  • Make sure you are aware of the costs summer schools incur. For the majority of programmes, tuition fees are not waived, and you will be responsible for covering these.

How to apply

Submit an application to the LCC International Development Office, as the number of bursaries we have is limited. Do not apply without having talked to us first. You can only list one university in your application. The summer school does not need to be related to your main degree area.

This is an internal application between you and LCC, and you will be instructed to apply to the other university's summer school afterwards. In your application, you will be required to write a 500-word personal statement outlining why you should be considered for a bursary.

Application deadline

The deadline to submit the internal application is 1 March 2024, 5pm. Fill in the LCC Summer Schools Bursary 2024 application form [Word doc – 28 KB] and send it to the LCC International Development Office at mobility@lcc.arts.ac.uk.

Please note: Students interested in the summer programme offered by Hong Kong Polytechnic University must submit their application by 20 February 2024.

We aim to contact applicants within one week of the application deadline.
