Free period products available across UAL

Free period products are now available across all our sites for our community to use.

As part of our wider cost of living support for students, we have introduced dispensers at all academic UAL sites, with free and sustainable tampons and pads from Grace & Green.

To make this a reality, UAL worked closely with Arts SU and student Changemakers, ensuring that key stakeholders were able to input into the project and students’ needs were met.

The idea was conceived by Changemakers at Central Saint Martins (CSM), and following the backing of Chief Social Purpose Officer Polly Mackenzie, the project was expanded to include all UAL sites.

CSM Sabbatical Officer Minna Ellis, who worked closely on this project, said:

“It’s great to see UAL, student Changemakers and the SU work in collaboration on a project. While it still is in early implementation stages, this project marks an important shift in how UAL – a world-leading institution responds to the cost-of-living crisis – responds to student basic needs of free sanitary provision and ultimately, ending period poverty at UAL.”

Chief Social Purpose Officer Polly Mackenzie added:

“It’s important that we are aware of the pressing issues our students are facing, which have been exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis.

I’m proud of the package of support we’ve put together and that all students will be able to access free, high-quality sanitary products when they need them.”
