Dr Yi Chen

Biography

I completed my doctorate degree in Cultural Studies (University of Sussex).

I am a senior lecturer in Contextual and Theoretical Studies (Design School). I also teach Architectural Criticism (University of Brighton). Previously, I have taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Cultural Studies, Modern and Contemporary History of Art and Media Communication.

My research interests are inter-disciplinary as they traverse across studies of visual culture, design theory, cultural history, and research methodologies. In my research, I employ cultural theories to link disparate sites of experience and materialities. I am keen to reflect on the relationship between the concrete and the abstract, theory and practice, the singular and the multiplicity. I have produced two monographs that encapsulate my research interests.
