Wing Wa Chan

Biography

Wing Chan is a researcher, editor, translator and writer. She is a research fellow and editor at Afterall Research Centre based in Central Saint Martins, London. Her publications include Making Space: Independent Artist Initiatives in Taiwan since 1988 (foreword co-written with Nicole Wang; Afterall, 2026), How to Pin Down Smoke: ruangrupa since 2000 (co-edited with Arianna Mercado and David Morris; Afterall, 2025) and Precarious Solidarities: Artists for Democracy 1974–77 (co-edited with David Morris; Afterall, 2023).

As an independent researcher, she talks to artists and writers and produces critical writing. As a mediator working horizontally and collectively with other researchers in the Afterall team, she leads Exhibition Histories research projects, commissions and publishes new writing, facilitates writing workshops, and contributes to collaborative research strategy.
