Dr Tom Tlalim

Biography

Tom Tlalim is the Course Leader of the MA in Sound Arts at LCC and a Senior Lecturer in Creative Research at CCW (UAL).
His work examines the relation between sensory experience, political power, and ideology through digital technologies and in the sonic domain. Tlalim His PhD research, “The Sound System of the State”, was awarded a full grant from the Dutch Mondriaan Foundation. He holds degrees in composition and electronic arts from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. His artwork includes installations, sound art, performance, films, text, and software. His artwork explores bodies, voices, artefacts and spaces as ideological devices. His work received grants and awards and is regularly exhibited internationally. Recent exhibitions include Listening to the Earth at SPARKIII Festival (HK), The Venice Architecture Biennale (collaboration with Susan Schuppli and Forensic Architecture), “The Future Starts Here” at the V&A in London, “Art in the age of ... Asymmetrical Warfare” at Witte de With in Rotterdam, “Hlysnan” at Casino Luxemburg, The Marrakech Biennale, and Stroom The Hague. His film was nominated for the Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and his work was featured at international events such as Transmediale, DEAF, and Sonic Acts.
