Biography

Stella is a Senior Lecturer at the Creative Computing Institute, University of the Arts London. In her role, she leads the second-year cohort and coordinates placements within the BSc Creative Computing programme. With a foundational background in engineering coupled with an interest in digital media and computer science, Stella has dedicated over a decade to investigating the convergence of technology and creativity. Her work primarily focuses on the design and development of Serious Games and innovative XR (Extended Reality) applications.

Prior to position at the Creative Computing Institute, Stella was a Lecturer in the Games Design and Development programme at the University of Greenwich, where she was unit leader for Game Development and Virtual Reality Principles modules. Her transition into academia was preceded by a career in the IT sector in London, where she functioned as a Research Consultant. In this capacity, she was developing engaging games aimed at facilitating assessment and fostering behavioural change.

Throughout her industrious career, Stella has significantly contributed to numerous EU-funded initiatives under the FP7 and HORIZON frameworks, focusing on sectors such as energy, culture, and IoT. Notable projects include OrbEEt and COSMOS, where she focused on the development of gamification frameworks and the application of serious games. Additionally, she served as a Coordinator for the EMOTIVE project on behalf of EXUS Ltd., a software house based in London. This project leveraged emotive storytelling and digital technologies, such as Augmented Reality (AR), to enhance audience engagement with challenging-to-access heritage sites.

Stella's academic credentials include an MSc in Design and Digital Media from the University of Edinburgh and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Coventry University which focuses on using data visualisation in games.
