Dr Sidney Hope

Biography

Sidney Hope (they/them) is a writer, artist and researcher. They are currently writing a novel that draws on speculative and political fiction and are also exploring autotheory as a mode of writing, weaving together apparent personal perspectives, narratives tied to depictions of inequality and pedagogical and critical theory. Language, since their early text art projects, has always operated as a central aspect of their creative practice.



Sidney studied a BA Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire (1999), an MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design (2004) and a PhD in Fine Art (by Practice) at the University of Leeds (2015). Sidney's PhD set out to reframe the classic perspectives on the politics of spectatorship. Sidney recently studied a PgCert in Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication (2025) and is currently stuying the MA Academic Practice at UAL.
