Biography

Dr. Shuhan Chen is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication at the University of the Arts London and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). With a focus on bridging theory and practice her research explores the complex intersections of digital media culture, and social change, particularly within the Global South and China.

She invites collaboration in several core area: Social relations and social changes, digital feminism and maculinity, behavioural change for sustainable development, social inequality. Her forthcoming book, Back to the Roots: The return to rural China, further expands her work into the social-cultural and political anlysis of migrant entrepreneruship.

As an experienced supervisor currently guiding five PhD candidates. Dr. Chen welcomes inequires from prospective research students interested in digital feminism, elder celebrity culture, virtual idols or the social-cultural impacts of mobile social media.

With a proven track record of securing research funding—securing grants for sustainable farming and international media conferences—and leading large-scale knowledge exchange initiatives, she offers a dynamic environment for high-impact research. Dr. Chen is eager to partner with scholars and students to navigate the evolving digital and regulatory landscapes of the UK and China
