Biography

Sevilay joined the London College of Communication as a PhD candidate in September 2023. Her project, titled “Multi-sited Belongings of Palestinian Women on TikTok, Instagram and Diaspora: Crossing Borders, Mediatising Conflict and Homeland (UAL Studentship)," supervised by Dr Sara Marino and Dr Rebecca Bramall, explores how Palestinian women in London use digital platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to negotiate belonging, identity, and resistance. Adopting a multi-sited ethnographic approach that links online and offline spaces, the research investigates how digital practices intersect with everyday experiences of cultural and political expression.

Her broader academic research interests include Digital Media Studies, Migration and Diaspora Studies, Border Studies, Postcolonial and Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, and alternative feminist methodological approaches informed by care ethics.

Sevilay also holds an MSc specialising in Gender, Media and Cultural Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
