Biography

Sam Brooker is Course Leader for BA (Hons) Media Communications at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. His work sits at the intersection of digital communication, literary theory, and cultural analysis, with a particular focus on how digital technologies reshape authorship, narrative, and media systems. Trained in Digital Humanities, Sam’s research combines theoretical enquiry with practice-based perspectives drawn from digital media production and design.

He is an active member of international research communities in hypertext, digital humanities, and interactive storytelling, serving regularly on the programme committee for ACM Hypertext (including as general chair) and contributing to various conferences including ICIDS and SHARP. At Hypertext 2025 I won the Douglas Engelbart Best Paper award. He is currently co-investigator on the AHRC/DFG funded Project Storymachine: https://storymachine.iisys.de/

Alongside his academic work, Sam maintains a professional practice in web and graphic design, informing a research-led approach to teaching grounded in contemporary creative and media industries.
