Biography
Nuoya Tan is a Lecturer in Psychology at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. Trained in experimental psychology, her work now spans mixed-methods and interdisciplinary approaches to explore human thinking, behaviour, and development across educational and real-world contexts. Her research focuses on how people think, generate ideas, solve problems, reflect on their thinking, and adapt within changing social, educational, and technological environments. She is particularly interested in thinking processes — including creative thinking, metacognition, and social cognition — and their role in supporting learning, empowerment, innovation, and positive social change. Her current work also examines how emerging technologies such as generative AI may reshape human thinking, behaviour, and social interaction, with a focus on meaningful human development in rapidly evolving systems and societies.
Nuoya has a longstanding interest in applying social science in real-world contexts, including consumer behaviour, impact evaluation, educational development, and innovation. She has collaborated on applied research and knowledge exchange projects with organisations including Unilever, BBC, Alchemist Learning, and Columbus Consulting.
Alongside her academic work, Nuoya is also an experienced empowerment coach for young people, supporting them in building confidence, resilience, and personal growth.
