Biography

Nathalie Hankir is a British-born, Swedish-Lebanese PhD researcher at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her research focuses on rural hunters in Småland, exploring how people construct and live out their own ideas of luxury, value, and the “good life” in everyday practice. This has involved extended in-person fieldwork and observation in Sweden. Her work looks at how these ways of life are shaped through daily routines, relationships to the land, and shared understandings of what matters. Rather than focusing on material wealth, she approaches luxury as something grounded in closeness to nature, autonomy, and a slower, more self-defined way of living. Her research contributes to a Nordic-centred understanding of value and luxury, rooted in restraint, independence, and an intimate relationship with place.
