Kexin Chen

Biography

Gina Kexin Chen is a practice-based PhD researcher at the University of the Arts London. Her research explores natural bio-fibres, sustainable textile materiality and ethnic minority communities, adopting interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the entangled relationships between humans and non-humans, ecology and craft.
Working across textile weaving, plant extraction, material sampling and installation, Chen interweaves indigenous craft heritage, rural field experience and theoretical research into narrative and experimental artistic practices. Her works often depart from wild plant habitats, ecological regeneration, and intangible cultural memory, employing plant-derived textiles as mediating agents to explore locality, material agency, and the reciprocal shaping of humans and their environments.
