Biography
Dr. Friendred Peng is an award winning installation and computational artist based in London, and the founder and director of STUDIO FRIENDRED. He is Course Leader & senior lecturer for MA 3D Computer Animation at LCC, UAL.He has held academic roles across several universities, including UAL Online, UCL Institute of Education and Goldsmiths. He holds a PhD researching the relationship between technology, installation and performance in human computer interaction. He also supervises doctoral researchers and has supported PhD work across institutions such as UCL and UAL.
Friendred’s work explores the intersections of art, technology and science, with a focus on performative interaction, sensory and immersive experience, AI and interactive space. His collaborative work with Turner Prize winner Oscar Murillo led to an AI animated film exhibited at Taka Ishii Gallery in Kyoto.
He is an active contributor to international research communities. He has delivered invited talks and keynotes at events including TEDx Amsterdam, the Art of Neuroscience Symposium, the University of Maryland, Keio University and UKRI AHRC events, and has presented at conferences such as UbiComp ISWC, MOCO and EVA London. He has also taken on leadership roles as Installation Co Chair for the Audio Mostly international conference, Demo Co Chair for the Augmented Humans conference, panel Chair for SAC and panel chair at the Ne Zha 2 UK film premiere, contributing to peer review and the curation of creative and computational research.
His work has been featured by Wallpaper, DesignBoom and CreativeApplications, and recognised through awards including the Oppo Renovator Award, the Da Shi Award and the Warden’s Public Engagement Award. He has exhibited internationally, including Tate Britain, the Design Museum, the Crypt Gallery, Furtherfiled and festivals including Dutch Design Week and the London Design Festival.
