Biography

Fernando Rihl is a Senior Lecturer at Chelsea College of Arts. Fernando trained at the Architectural Association (London) and in the University Federal Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). He has two MAs in architecture (housing studies and environmental issues) and a PhD with an expertise on daylight studies. Fernando has 10 years experience teaching at the MA level at Royal College of Arts where I supervised three PhDs and MPhil plus more than 140 practice-based MAs.

Fernando is a co-founder of procter-rihl architects since 1995. Procter-Rihl architects specialise in residential projects in the UK and abroad. Our architecture strives to be climate and culture responsive engaged with history and locality while forward thinking. We develop an architecture which addresses Climate Emergency carbon reduction targets though low carbon materials and low operational emissions. Prior work with well-known London offices such as Rick Mather, Allies and Morrison, Jestico + Whiles and Zaha Hadid has given us a variety of experience.

Widely published in the UK and abroad. PR architects has won several awards including a RIBA Award and finalist for Architect of the Year. Slice House has been recently become a listed building in Brazil (Equivalent to Grade II, UK). The practice is currently working on a new publication (pattern book - affordable sustainable housing).
