Erica Scourti

Biography

Erica Ezzo Scourti is an artist, writer and researcher working across experimental writing, performance, moving image and digital media. They are a Lecturer in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Their work explores autobiography and its mediation through technological, economic and social systems, with recurring interests in autotheory, gender, platform culture, cultural labour, voice and the unstable boundaries between personal and collective experience.


Their practice-led PhD, Played Myself Again: Autotheory and the Extractive Self, draws on a decade of tweets, performances, writing and artworks to examine gender, social media and the political affects of artistic labour in the context of performing the self. The research develops the idea of “impersonal autotheory” as a way of thinking beyond the autobiographical ‘I’ as an autonomous or self-contained subject.


Scourti is a co-organiser of SUBTEXTS, a creative writing collective based at Queen Mary, University of London that foregrounds writing from the margins, and contributes to the Feminist Duration reading Group, based at CCA Goldsmiths.





Their work has been presented internationally, including at EMST (the National museum of Contemporary Art, Athens), Fondazione Giuliani, High Line New York, Serendicity Festival Hong Kong, Ochto Athens, Wellcome Collection, Hayward Gallery, Munich Kunstverein, ICA London and Athens Biennale. Their writing has appeared in On Care (Ma Biblioteque, 2020), Spells (Spiral House 2018, 2025) and Fiction as Method (Sternberg, 2017) amongst others.. Recent projects/publications include Bittersweet Review (2026), As the non-world falls away (TEXTZ, 2024) and No to Self (Veer, 2023).
