Biography

Xie Rong (aka Echo Morgan) is an artist, researcher and Lecturer in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Rooted in Taoist philosophy and informed by the Fluxus movement, her practice explores relationships between bodily action, material transformation and everyday life. Working across expanded painting, performance, moving image and printmaking, she investigates how gesture and storytelling communicate cultural memory and address questions of gender, migration and environmental justice.
Her practice-led research brings archival enquiry, interviews and personal reflection into dialogue with artistic experimentation. Projects include research into Betsy Damon’s environmental practice in China, documentary work with communities in Liangshan, and interdisciplinary collaborations connecting calligraphy, music and performance. Her research has been shared through international conferences, film screenings, museum commissions, exhibitions and publications.
Her interdisciplinary background encompasses fashion illustration, editorial writing and theatrical environments. These experiences inform her investigation of relationships between image, garment, body and space. Alongside her international practice, Xie develops teaching approaches that bring Chinese cultural knowledge, ecofeminism and performativity into contemporary painting education.
