Denise Bianco

Biography

Denise Bianco is a Researcher and Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UAL). She is completing a PhD investigating art–science relations as a model for transdisciplinarity, drawing on interviews with over forty practitioners worldwide and months of fieldwork. Her thesis explores barriers to collaboration, the development of transdisciplinary expertise, and the competencies needed for collaborative practice.

She is an Associate Lecturer on the MA Innovation Management programme (MAIM) at Central Saint Martins, where she leads and mentors students, bringing fresh, creative perspectives and experience in applied innovation. She joined the course in 2021 and has since been involved in teaching, supervision, and curriculum development. Her areas of expertise include:
- qualitative research methods
- systems thinking
- SciTS – science of team science
- transdisciplinary research and innovation
- creativity and organisation studies
- RRI – Resposible Research and Innovation

At MAIM, she also supports students throughout their research journey, providing academic and methodological guidance from project development through to completion.

Alongside her academic work, Denise is a Senior Research Community Manager at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and AI, where she works on the MRC-funded Advancing Biomedical Data Science Careers project. She also co-organises the Institute's AI & Arts Interest Group, a multidisciplinary community that brings together academia, the creative industries, and policymakers to explore the intersections of technology and the arts.
