Biography

I'm Cath Caldwell, Educational Developer at the University of the Arts London. I have different roles, at UAL and one is Educational Developer, at UAL's Teaching and Learning Exchange, with a focus on social justice and equity in assessment.
I'm based at Central Saint Martins as the College Lead, which emerged from the Academic Enhancement Model initiative, which I was one of the founders in 2018.
I previously held the secondment post CSM Academic Coordinator for Student Enterprise and Employability as I am keen to help all kinds of students into self or paid employment.

My pronouns are she/her, and I am co-chair of UAL's Disabled and Neuro-diverse Staff Network, actively campaigning to represent fellow staff.

I am a Trustee at the National History Museum, and took this role on as part of the Department of Levelling Up's agenda to add diversity to UK Boardrooms. This is the Boardroom Apprentice Scheme.

My teaching practice continues in journalism and publishing studies, currently located in Central Saint Martins Fashion Communication Programme.

In my continuing creative practice outside UAL, I'm an author working with Laurence King Publishing. The third edition of Editorial Design: Digital and Print is out September 2024 featuring new interviews with global practitioners and features alumni and students.

I support editorial networks such as Magculture and BSME and am a former Design Director at ELLE UK, having also worked for the Guardian and Condé Nast (New
York). I was a co-founder of the Editorial Designers Organisation and active member in New York's Society of Publication Designers.

Do contact me if you want to get in touch about my current practice.
