Biography
Embodying and championing the legacy of the BA Fashion Womenswear community at CSM, I followed into the footsteps of my predecessor, former tutor, close friend and renowned artist Howard Tangye by accepting the post of BA Fashion Womenswear Pathway Leader in 2015 and simultaneously continuing my career as an award-winning artist. My knowledge, values, evidenced actions and effective and inclusive practice as a leader are informed by my sustained record of 22 years’ experience within Higher Education and working internationally as Visual Artist of fashion, film and performance. As an artist I have managed my own, numerous research grants, including CAPTURE, managed by Portland Green Cultural Projects and Arts Council England, and employed, led and inspired my own diverse teams. I have shown my work internationally, including at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and was published in several books, including ‘Conditioned by Dress, The Relationship Between Mind, Fashion, Film & Performance’ – Anna-Nicole Ziesche, Orta, Lucy & Teunissen, José. I have worked collaboratively as a curator developing, designing and managing international exhibitions including at RMIT, Melbourne.
As my careers in art and academia inform each other, my leadership at CSM comprises three key ambitions; these represent my identity as an Artist-Academic, my core passions for my students and colleagues, and ensure an inclusive, creative, and compelling teaching and learning environment at UAL and beyond: Artist, Advocate and Expert.
