Dr Alaistair Steele

Biography

Alaistair Steele is a designer, researcher and educator. He is the current Course Leader of MA User Experience Design at LCC. He has combined teaching at UAL with his own design and research practice since 2003. His work explores new approaches for living with technology in cities, focusing on incorporating the everyday and the overlooked in strategies for making cities fairer, more useful and more fun. He waas awarded his UK banking funded practice-led PhD thesis exploring social uses for the UK’s evolving ATM network in 2024.

He is particularly interested in linking design education with practice. For over 20 years he has initiated numerous live outward-facing projects that engage with place, local communities and technology. Project partners have included IDEO, Brixton Pound, Moley Robotics, Chelsea Physic Garden, V&A, and R/GA. Recent academic partners include Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Washington, Seattle.
