Biography
BIOGRAPHYAbigail Clemens (she/her/hers) is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher based in London and the San Francisco Bay Area. Interested in examining the relationships between materials and empire, as well as sound and hospitality, her scholarship and arts practice center philosophy, diasporic studies, and migratory aesthetics. She uses sonic forms (audio narrative, music composition, sound collage) and fine art disciplines (drawing, papermaking, and painting) to investigate and question sensory, social, and political conditions for invitation and care. A former bass student of Marion Hayden, Robert Hurst, and Benny Green, Abigail also uses her research to reflect on listening and performing positionalities as they pertain to different genres of music (especially Black American Music), race, and gender.
