During the 2025/26 academic year, Professor Salomé Voegelin and Dr Mark Peter Wright organised research events in Berlin (TU) and London (UAL) exploring the connected challenges of climate, health, law and sound.
Scholars, artists and research students came together from the University of Oxford, University of Southampton, Bauhaus University Weimar, University of Coventry and UAL. Policy makers and justice organisations such as the Green Web Foundation and Lab Societal Transition and Well-being (GeoClimRisk project) supported a rich cross-disciplinary working environment.
The events focused on sound and listening as important ways of understanding and engaging in the interrelated issues of climate, health and law. Researchers and practitioners worked together to share ideas, ask questions, and explore new possibilities.
Each activity featured a speaker/facilitator from climate, health and law, respectively paired up with a sound researcher. These cross-disciplinary pairs introduced ideas and shared three questions, which were then operated by groups of student researchers across different fields.
Through this collaboration, participants considered how sound can help build relationships, develop new approaches to research and practice, and better understand ecology as a complex network of social, political, economic, material and scientific connections.
