Volunteering doesn’t have to be about giving up your free time, it can also be about sharing.

Our alumni associations and groups are always looking for new and exciting places to hold their events. We try to run events for little or no cost to attendees and we, therefore, rely on the generous support of other alumni by hosting our events at their studios, offices, galleries, etc. It can be a great opportunity to showcase your company and the work you do, or just to expand your network and reconnect with fellow graduates.

Below are some examples of how alumni and companies have previously supported us in this way.

South Korea

In 2019, the UAL Korea Alumni Association organised an alumni reception for all our graduates based in Seoul. The evening was hosted at Foresthill Studios, a fantastic photography studio that is owned by the family of Giyong Lee, a member of the Korea Alumni Association committee. By donating the use of the space for the event, it meant the UAL Korea Alumni Association Committee were able to expand their event to include an incredible exhibition of alumni work and invite a larger number of guests.

New York

We’ve previously hosted alumni receptions for the UAL East Coast Alumni Association at the offices of Great Bowery in New York. Through developing a close relationship with Great Bowery, the UAL East Coast Alumni Association was able to host in an event space that isn’t normally open to the public. The evening included a life drawing class, as well as an exhibition of Central Saint Martins (CSM) alumnus Patrick Vale's work.

Europe

A number of our alumni groups have hosted events in workshops or creative spaces that have belonged to alumni.

Julia Binfield, who is a member of the UAL Italy Alumni Group, hosted a photography workshop in her studio space. The workshop was led by group leader Giulio, who is a professional photographer, and attendees had a chance to develop their skills and their professional network.

Joan, group leader for the UAL Spain Alumni Group, has previously hosted an afternoon making jewellery at his workshop in Barcelona, and the UAL Denmark Alumni Group leader Alexander has organised a number of tours and workshops in studios run by alumni, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at Tivoli Gardens theme park in Copenhagen, where an alumnus worked.

Previous event spaces

You share the space and we do the rest.

Offering a group the opportunity to meet in a private space means that they can host a wider variety of events, from panel discussions to Open Crit nights, creative workshops, or professional networking evenings.

If you have space, however small, that you think would suitable to host an alumni event in the future, please do get in touch with us: alumni@arts.ac.uk
