LCC Alumni come back to celebrate.

On a sunny Wednesday evening, Elephant and Castle came alive with excitement as over 200 former students came back to the iconic London College of Communication site to reunite with old classmates, meet new Head of College and UAL Pro Vice-Chancellor, Natalie Brett, and celebrate the campus’ 50th anniversary.

As printers, graphic designers, publishers, bookmakers, photographers, journalists, film-makers, screenwriters and typographers (and many more) reunited, everyone had fond memories to share from their time at the College.

In her speech, Natalie Brett emphasised that the since the College was established in 1894 it may have undergone countless name changes and occupied various buildings across London, but everyone in the room, regardless of where, what and when they studied, shared an amazing connection.

The College has, and always will, evolve as technological and communications methods develop. Throughout the evening, guests were able to explore how this has happened since they graduated by joining current students and technicians on a tour of some of LCC’s workshops and teaching areas, including the extensive library, the state-of the-art digital space and industry standard television and film studio. They were also able to see how students still take advantage of many traditional techniques to compliment their work, such as letterpress printing, screen printing and bookbinding.

“It was fantastic be able to give alumni this opportunity to reunite with classmates and former tutors. With anniversary celebrations set to continue the College and UAL’s Alumni Relations team are looking forward to repeating this wonderful experience.” Holly McConnell, UAL’s Development and Alumni Coordinator: Communities.
