Two current Chelsea MA Fine Art students –Cadi Froehlich & Jon Pilkington – have made this year’s New Sensations longlist. This highly regarded annual prize, run by The Saatchi Gallery & Channel 4, seeks out and supports the best new talent graduating from UK BA & MA courses. It’s an important showcase, each year helping to launch the careers of top graduating artists.
Cadi Froehlich‘s work engages with the materiality of how we communicate in this Information Age. She manipulates salvaged copper and sees her work as interventions in the life-cycle of copper. Cadi has already received much recognition for her practice, having in the past been selected for Creekside Open, Peckham Open and the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
Fellow MA student Jon Pilkington‘s oil paintings have also made the longlist. This is the latest in a string of career successes for Jon, including featuring in the Liverpool Art Prize exhibition at Tate Liverpool and having his first solo exhibition ‘Waiting Room’ last year.
Our jubilant students are now in the running to show in The New Sensations Exhibition, where shortlisted artists will compete for the top prize. Selection for the prize offers great exposure for artists, as last year’s shortlisted artist and Chelsea grad Nicholas Dedics would tell you.
Keep your eyes peeled for the New Sensations shortlist, winner to be announced October 2013. Best of luck to our students!
